At C&G Partners I worked with the U.S. Naval Institute, an independent forum for those working in the naval profession. My team and I developed a series of installations for the new Jack C. Taylor Conference Center located on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD to highlight the history and importance of the space, a new place for academic convenings in the naval profession. I lead the concept, development and execution of a comprehensive branded system of physical exhibitions and environments.
Our designs included a 3-story donor recognition wall inspired by celestial navigation, in which a layered three-dimensional design depicts a star chart from the Institute’s founding in 1873 using silver disks and dichroic prisms, with donor names also in dichroic film scattered among the stars.
Throughout the space are a series of graphic displays that tell the history of the institute. The form of these displays mimics both a page from a book and an undulating wave, inspired by their mission to be the leading organization for literary and scientific thought leadership within the naval profession.
The U.S. Naval Institute’s mission is encapsulated in this John Adams quote, which is proudly displayed at the auditorium entrance.
We also developed an accompanying wayfinding system for the new conference center, and a display for their Proceedings magazine, one of the oldest continuously published magazines in the United States.
Finally, we designed a luxurious printed invitation for the opening ceremony of the conference center, with textures, colors and foil details mimicking that of the physical space.
