navigate between past and present: a lifestyle guide with historical perspective.
A reference for New Yorkers, this book invites readers to experience the historical significance of the city as they interact with each unique facet today. By synthesizing three source books, I created and designed a reference guide that both is history book that can be read cover to cover and a reference to New York’s top restaurants, bars, shopping that can be searched as needed.
A tile motif throughout the book works as a cross-referencing system, allowing the user to easily navigate between past and present, just as the tiles in the New York City subway system link us to it’s history. Vellum overlays on the maps allow the reader to compare modern and historical content on the same city streets.
